Eugenics In Popular Culture

Eugenics In Popular Culture
Eugenics is present in popular culture everywhere, but in the new film, "Get Out" it was certainly put on display. In the film, the white family looks to kidnap African Americans and use them for their bodies and "genetic advantages". The white people believe that African Americans are genetically superior to them, in the film which is surprising as usually people involved with eugenics believe their own genes to be superior. Anyways, the main ideas of eugenics are presented throughout the entire movie, as a focus.

  1. I also saw this film! Whether it was intentional or not, it seems that this film was released to the public at the right time for the sake of society. Get Out came to theaters at a point in time when controversial topics such as the fear of those labeled as “different” taking part in significant roles in politics and society, racism, and xenophobia are considerably prominent. Although Get Out may display a magnitude of racism that is quite extreme for the modern-day, the racial actions that continue to occur go to a certain extent of those in the film. In today’s society, they seem to be reflected in less inhumane manners and generally expressed verbally, but resulting in comparable damage to many individuals. In addition to verbal racism, different ethnicities appear to be withheld equal opportunities. This controversy is currently reflected in different genders and classes as well.
