The Rise Of Nationalism In The U.S.

This is Steve Bannon, one of President Trump's advisors and head of the Breitbart news organization. Many have argued that the "Far-Right" is non-existent in today's America, but it seems that Bannon's publication has helped give rise to a Far-Right, Nationalistic group of people in the U.S. today. The so-called, "Alt-Right" movement that voiced it's support for Donald Trump during the election is a white-nationalist group that has now gained serious traction. Is this the type of person you want in the ear of the most powerful man in the world?

What's Next in Science?

Here is a TED talk where Eric Haseltine discusses the speculation that has spurred beautiful, revolutionary science throughout history, science that opens our eyes to entirely new universes. This is not science that takes baby steps, it is science that takes enormous leaps. In this talk, Haseltine passionately takes us to the edges of intellectual pursuit with two ideas- one that's already made history, and another that's digging into one of humanity's biggest questions with admirable ambition (and a healthy dose of skepticism from many).

Technology, the Empathy Killer

Most of us spend quite a bit of time with our technology, and while some experts argue that we are developing better social networking skills and thus enhancing technological empathy, I think all this online time is weakening our face-to-face human contact skills. Many people, particularly young teens, gain social support through their hours of texting and social networking, but does that person who averages more than 11 hours each day using technology look you in the eye when you have a conversation? I know when someone maintains eye contact, I have a greater sense that he or she is listening and interested in what I have to say. But that rarely happens as people use there phone or think it's weird or awkward to look at someone when they are talking. Dating apps are also killing empathy as they are being used more and more today. Tinder is the biggest contender. Tinder is one of the biggest and most widely used dating apps today. It allows users to meet other users around them and by only seeing pictures, decide if they want to match with them and if they other person also matches with them, they get a message saying that they both matched. That was the original purpose of the app, it is now widely used for one night stands and hook ups.

Children in the Industrial Revolution

At the start of the industrial Revolution there was no legislation about working conditions in mills, factories or other industrial plants. They simply had not been needed before. As factories spread rapidly the owners of mills, mines and other forms of industry needed large numbers of workers and they didn't want to have to pay them a high wage. Children were the ideal employees therefore! They were cheap, weren't big enough or educated enough to argue or complain and were small enough to fit between tight fitting machinery that adults couldn't get between. Children soon ended up working in all types of industry. Parents were quite willing to let children work in mills and factories as it provided the family with a higher income. Nowadays lots of children have Saturday jobs or part time work after school. They might work as shop assistants, have paper round or even work in creative jobs and design jobs. these jobs are carefully controlled and the government has made laws saying how long children can work for, what types of job they can and cannot do and what the minimum age for working is.

Government Surveillance

Here is an interesting TED talk where privacy researcher Christopher Soghoian sees the landscape of government surveillance shifting beneath our feet. He says, there have now been over the last few years an industry of companies who provide surveillance technology to governments, specifically technology that allows those governments to hack into the computers of surveillance targets. Rather than intercepting the communications as they go over the wire, instead they now hack into your computer, enable your webcam, enable your microphone, and steal documents from your computer.

Technology in Warfare

Technology and war go hand in hand. In America and many other countries, we run on a government first policy, meaning that the government gets new technology first, then  allows it to the general public. The drones that are ever so popular today were originally used to watch over the battlefield or scout an enemy base. The best of security is also used by the government to ensure victory in the cyber war so our information cannot be stolen by hackers. The pentagon is one of the most encrypted places to exist, only few people have broken into the pentagon, and most of them did it just to say that they have broken into the pentagon or are paid to try and brake in so that they can fix the system by the way they got in.

Everyone and the Government Are Watching

When you download a new app on your phone and open it for the first time, you will be prompted with a message saying what permissions it needs to run on your phone. This permissions can run from accessing the internet to accessing your contact and from making calls to using the microphone and/or camera while the app is active. Not many people actually read what this says, they just select accept and carry on with their business, but the app developer can be recording or even looking at you when you are using the app and you do not even know! The problem with that is if you notice the app wanting to have an odd permission, if you decline the app permission, it will not work instead of just not using the permission. If it is an important app that you need, then you have no control over it because you need to have it and cannot stop it from having those permissions which allows developers to gain and sell information.

Fun Fact About Women in Technology

As we learned in class, Grace Murray Hopper was one of the first female computer programmers. Everyone has also heard the phrase "I have found a bug in your program," or "There is a bug in the system." The word bug was coined by Grace while investigating a large computer. She noticed that something was not working correctly, so she took a look inside the computer and after carefully analyzing the hardware, she noticed a moth was stuck inside one of the compilers, basically a switch that is On or Off, that was causing it to not work. After removing it from the system, the compiler worked again.

Government Surveillance

When heard of being under surveillance, people often automatically go against the idea. It is clearly an invasion of privacy; the government tracking your private calls, social media, and texts. Today, the government has access to anyone's information anytime. People are uncomfortable with the idea that someone is able to access private information that they do not want anyone to see, regardless of whatever it is. Privacy offers many people a sense of freedom as well. When the privacy is invaded, it is as if they're freedom has been taken away, their right to keep things to themselves. Although there are negative aspects, I do not believe that anyone would be affected by being under surveillance unless they had something to hide. However, the information accessed should remain classified instead of being given away to companies as a target for advertisement or efficiency. For example, the man who went to Disney had all of his information already accessed by the park's database. Although the government wants to access an individual's privacy, it should always be to a limit and kept as classified information as well.

Eye in the Sky

As has been largely assumed as our nation has progressed, the recent years have only confirmed the fact that the government is in fact monitoring your every move, and everything is backed up. It is entirely understandable that people would be upset that there is no such thing as "true privacy" anymore, but the chances that someone in the NSA is actively looking at your internet history specifically is pretty absurd. I for one, do not have much of a problem with this, as I have nothing to hide. The main purpose of this is to keep people safe, through any means necessary. It certainly infringes on some rights to privacy, but I feel it is a necessary evil. I know it is not a popular opinion, but it has never effected my life in a positive or negative way, so it is just like nothing ever happened. This TIME article brings up several interesting discussion points pertaining to privacy, or really, the illusion of privacy.

Eugenics In Popular Culture

Eugenics In Popular Culture
Eugenics is present in popular culture everywhere, but in the new film, "Get Out" it was certainly put on display. In the film, the white family looks to kidnap African Americans and use them for their bodies and "genetic advantages". The white people believe that African Americans are genetically superior to them, in the film which is surprising as usually people involved with eugenics believe their own genes to be superior. Anyways, the main ideas of eugenics are presented throughout the entire movie, as a focus.

The Eugenics Movement

Eugenics In The U.S.
The Eugenics movement once ran rampant across the United States, believe it or not. Eugenics look to "improve" the genetic quality of a certain population. In the U.S., many believe that Planned Parenthood was founded by Margaret Sanger to control how many minorities were having children. The United States looked down upon Germany, but some in their country shared the same process as the Germans, and the U.S. may have even helped spread the movement to Germany in the first place. Hitler's fantasy of an Aryan race was modeled by eugenics, he felt blonde hair and blue eyes were the most desirable trait for one to have, though he didn't posses these traits himself.

Against Her Will

Thrasher, James, and Jake Niederdeppe. "The impact of anti-tobacco industry prevention messages in tobacco producing regions: evidence from the US truth® campaign." Tobacco Control 13.3 (2004): 283-88. Proqueset. Web. 12 Apr. 2017.

This article talks about something that is not mentioned too much here in America, but is a growing issue since the 1990's in countries like Africa and Greece. In these countries women-mostly poor women, are being sterilized without any permission. They are either forced to sign a paper in which they are barely briefed for, or a medical personal does it without asking. This is causing many women to become sterilized after their first born baby! This kind of treatment seems unfair because women should have the right to control their decisions; especially when it pertains to their pregnancy. This actually occurred in America in the state of North Dakota. A women was sterilized after she gave birth. She was forced to do it because of the regulations. The sad part is, when she sued the hospital, civilians from the town sided against her. This is something us as Americans should look at. With the events of gay marriage and immigrants being an occurring news topic here in the US, things like this are being overshadowed because of it

The Elf on a Shelf

American culture surely leads to some interesting customs and traditions from time to time. One such tradition is that of the elf on a shelf, made to trick younger children into behaving so Santa may shower them with gifts come Christmas. But what does this teach children? According to this interesting article by the Huffington Post , it is preparing children to live in a dystopian police state. While that is a slight exaggeration, I do believe it is teaching the wrong values. Children should be taught the right way to behave regardless of reward, not just because it will bring them presents one day of the year. It is mainly just a harmless Christmas tradition, but it does relay sort of the wrong message.

Technology and Warfare

Nuclear weapons have come to redefine what war really is. In the matter of mere seconds, a ridiculous amount of people can be wiped out. War has continually evolved as technology has, and each and every day, scientists are working for government agencies to try and develop even more powerful weapons. Most of these weapons aren't used, but rather are used to let your enemy know what you are capable of. Likely, there won't be another major ground war fought like World War I or II for a very long time, with the firepower major superpowers harbor today, most countries are hesitant to engage in military action as they are aware of the destruction they can cause. Scientists, chemical engineers, etc. Won't ever stop working on these weapons. and as technology improves, so will the amount of damage these weapons can do.

Population Control Politics

When researching this topic, I focused on the development of discriminatory policies in the US, specifically the use of sterilization by dominant forces in society to control the fertility of minorities and the lower class. There is a significant difference between birth control and population control. Birth control allows individuals to freely control their fertility while population control preserves institutional interests. Three movements shaped attitudes toward fertility control of a population, including the women’s movement, the eugenics movement, and the population control movement. The women’s movement stressed reproductive freedom while the eugenics movement attempted to suppress the growth of racial and ethnic groups. Likewise, the population movement sought to control the fertility of the lower classes. Before the mid-1960s, nearly all control activities were managed by private organizations comprised of the elites in society. Since then, the government’s part in population control has continued to increase vastly. Therefore, population control activities have become more centralized, planned, and universal. As these characteristics may seem better for equality, the laws were created in an opposite manner. On account of the transformation being primarily managed by the Population Council, the dominant class was able to manipulate public opinion and appoint the power of the government to advance toward the goal of the elites which was to control the fertility of the lower class. Essentially, the elites created a welfare state beneficial to their vested interests. Clearly, this is shown by the sterilization abuses that took place among various welfare recipients. Overall, it seems that discriminatory promotions of sterilization were directed toward the lower class and unwanted ethnic groups of the elites the most.

Alan Turing

Alan Turing was a man that revolutionized computing and coding. This paper talks about his accomplishments in his short life. At his early 20's he began to do research in Manchester university in computing. However, he is most known for his work in breaking the Nazi communications called "Enigma". He was a very independent guy, he liked to work alone and almost got rid of his team mid-way through the process. He built a machine that would be able to think by itself(computer) and decode enigma. This machine helped end the war early and Alan became an unsung hero in the war.

Gender Gap in Technology

This article talks about the gender gap from the past years. It focuses on specifc careers, in this case; Women as Astronauts and Women in Computer science. In the past only men had the right to be an Add to dictionary. NASA never hosted trials or even give any chance for women to become Add to dictionary. In fact, one of the leaders of NASA tell women that they should "get out", whenever they think they want to work for them. However, when women finally had a chance to become one, their scores either matched with men or did better. This proves that gender should not play a factor in this field. Secondly, they talk about the low percentage of women in the field of computer science. In my opinion, this is a matter you cant control. What girls do you know out there want to be a computer science major? I feel mem are more exposed to the field when they are younger. For example, video games is something that can push somebody to become a computer science major. Girls don't typically play video games. This topic isn't really a decimation against women.

Bill Gates

In my opinion one of the most influential and important people of all time is Bill Gates. In the article below is the condensed life story of Bill Gates. He started out just like the rest of us, and grew into the shoes of the richest man in the world. He followed something he was passionate about and started one of the biggest corporations in the world who forever changed the face of technology, It is virtually impossible to go somewhere and not use something that was at least either first patented or created by Microsoft and its affiliated companies. I cannot think of another person who helped usher in the age of technology more than Bill Gates. On top of being incredibly smart, he is also incredibly charitable. He and his wife, Melinda, donate billions of their massive fortune to charity and those in need. He is truly a revolutionary individual.

Warfare and the Ever Expanding Technology

It is no big surprise that with the ever increasing need for bigger and better weapons, society has risen to meet the challenge. However: when should the line be drawn? The days of fighting with swords and flails are long behind us, and the stakes have never been higher. Bombs and missiles are thrown around like confetti at a toddlers birthday party, and the collateral damage and mental distress they cause are irreparable. Drones and other UAV's lead to a disconnect between the people who pilot them and those who are on the receiving end. In the past, combat was close and personal. Now, you can safely level an entire block from the other side of the world. While I am all for drone warfare, I believe that it is a potential disaster waiting to happen. The following article about Obama's drone campaign in '16 highlights the pros and cons along with the moral side of drone warfare.

Women and Eugenics

No one in society should have the power to deem an individual worthy, or unworthy, or going through pregnancy and having children. Forced sterilization, or eugenics, is a shameful black eye on any nation that may enforce such a barbaric practice. Something out of Nazi Germany, it takes away the rights of men and women who are thought of as inferior, no matter how false these accusations are. When an action or process is closely related and compared to Hitler and the Nazi regime, something is not quite right and should be a red flag to any level headed individual. The evidence of forced sterilization being a momentously horrid action can be seen in further detail in the article below.

Government is Watching

This article, The government just admitted it will use smart devices for spying. by Trevor Timm is very interesting because I never realized that basically any device in your house can be used to listen in. In the article it shows how in Samsung's privacy policy for their T.V. it says that any information that is spoken around the device might be heard by a Third Party. To me this is crazy to even think about. The picture below shows another example of what the government could be using to listen in to what people are saying in their everyday life.

Relationship Between Technology and Warfare

I read the article Science, Technology, and the Future of Warfare by Margaret Kosal. This is a very interesting article about the rapid pace of the technological advances. Once someone comes out with a new technology the whole world knows about it because of how fast news can travel. A very interesting statement she said was, "In today’s world, recognition of the potential applications of a technology and a sense of purpose in exploiting it are far more important than simply having access to it."(Kosal) So instead of using the technology since everyone has access to it nowadays. Finding ways to exploit the countries who heavily rely on these technologies is more important then using them.

Totalitarianism and Technology

Our future society is doomed to be under constant surveillance. Currently, it seems that a person can't shop, dine out or simply go for a walk around the block without being watched by cameras. Do you act in the same manor while being out and knowing that you are surrounded by cameras as you would if they were not there? A negative response to this question would suggest that surveillance prohibits the distinction between playful and sophisticated behavior. If a person goes out with worry of being caught on camera, they are most likely not going to act with their normal demeanor.

Survailence Culture

This article does not come as a surprise to me. During my spring break, I visited universal studios and when I entered the park I was required to give them my finger print without even being told why. This article gave me an idea on what happened during my trip. I believe surveillance like this is unnecessary in places like parks. Cities like New York should notify the citizens on their secret surveillance. If they do not let people know, I believe this is an invasion of somebody's privacy because a persons information can be accessed at anytime through a camera. It sounds like a bad futuristic movie where a person hacks into a system to access people's cards. I understand where Naomi is coming from because he feels it is unsafe for the government to scan your movements.

Technology and Warfare

This video discusses the technological developments of World War I. During the war, the governments of all the different warring powers put enormous amounts of time and effort into scientific and technical development so the advancements, which would have happened anyway, happened at a much more rapid pace and according to the priorities of the military powers. It was really the first war in which all of the technology, science, and industry of the 19th century were put to the sole purpose of killing people.

Technology and Warfare

The advancement of science and technology has its positive and negative factors. Medically, technology has played a significant role in improving health with cures and life expectancy. Technologically, much of the hard and dangerous labor has been made more efficient by machines. Developments of new substances, like plastic, has increased production of goods by being a substitute for more expensive materials. Like everything else, science has also advanced weapons in warfare. This has resulted in weapons that are more and more deadlier and cause the most harm to a human being. Compared to swords, arrows, and rifles, war today is much different than it used to be. Heavy and dangerous weapons are the result of scientific and technological improvements. World War I first showed signs of these improvements when aircrafts, submarines, barbed wires, poisonous gas, and tanks began to come into the battlefield. Later in World War II, flame throwers, rockets, mines, and more advanced aircrafts and guns came into play as well since technology was still advancing. The Manhattan Project to this day is known as the turn of the tide in the war. This was a research and development project that created the first nuclear weapons. With science becoming more advanced, the equation e=mc^2 (created by Albert Einstein) helped reach the goal of this project. Today, weapons of mass destruction are enough to wipe out cities. Essentially, although technology has helped human civilization progress, it has also played a role in weapons becoming more destructive.

Tech in Wars

The affect of technology in war first appeared during World War 1. before that, armies would use the gorilla method, in which armies were lined up across from each other and fire at a specific pace. When world war one occurred, armies developed new weapons. these weapons consisted of poisonous gas, tanks, and the machine gun. With the development of these weapons, came a new way to fight these battles. The bunkering method was introduced which allowed soldiers to camp in trenches. Another big advancement came in world war 2. The destructive hydrogen bomb was created which allowed the owners of this bomb to be a big threat. It is said that because of these advancements in technology, death rates have decreased since. One can say that technology is the principal shaper of war in the modern world.

Technology in Intimate Relationships: Good or Bad?

Usually technology is considered to have a negative impact on intimate relationships. In some ways, that can be true. Today, many couples want to make sure their partners are not sending inappropriate texts and search through their social media profiles and texts. Looking through a significant other's texts and social media may lead to jealousy or neglect; which can be from the misinterpretation of messages. K. Ancheta and K Hertlein give an example of the impact of social media on relationships, "Lumpkin (2012) stated that 33% of divorce cases mentioned Facebook in 2011 while the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers stated that the top Facebook concerns are inappropriate messages to individuals of the opposite sex". Despite these negative factors, technology plays an important role in communication in a relationship. It helps them be more connected and communicate more through texts and calls. Two people can communicate throughout the day and keep in touch with each other which has proved to cause more intimacy. Overall, the positive aspects (in some ways) outweigh the negative impacts of technology in intimate relationships.

Technology and It's Affects on Social Experiences

Empathy
I have sat in a dinner with all my friends glued to their phones many times, and I'm sure all of you have also. The use of technology in our lives has greatly impacted how some of us enjoy life. We all rely it on to save us whether it is looking up a question on our homework and even social interactions. It is a fact that technology has killed our empathy, and every time someone from an older generation brings up the topic, he or she has every right to judge us; Millennials. But is it really our fault that we have lost the little interactions that occur in the outside world? In a world where technology is so advanced, how could we not enjoy it?

A Boon to Industry, A Bane to Childhood

Hey guys! I found this interesting video about the Industrial Revolution. She discusses how this transition to new manufacturing processes prohibited children from experiencing an ideal childhood.

Women and Children: Plight of the Industrial Revolution

The Impact of the Industrial Revolution on Women and Children

As is painfully evident in great detail, large quantities of women and children went through very harsh times in factories around the country during this industrial boom. Check out the video above for more detail, I could not embed it so follow the link.

Industrialization: The Impact on Women

Industrialization forever changed the typical gender roles of women. The role of a woman was to stay home and do chores or take care of kids while men went out and worked. It was not common for a woman to be in a workplace. But when men starting getting drafted out to war, women had to fill in the empty spaces in the factories. The conditions in the factories were overcrowded and very unsafe. Women were also payed a lot less than men. However, having a job helped women earn their own money and live independently, providing for their kids without relying on a man. Independency also sparked an interest in social movements and activism since women were also not used to using their own voices and speaking out their opinions. With their mothers working and not making enough, children also began to work. Child labor became very popular since children wanted to contribute with their parents. The decline of nuclear families in the US was a result of women and children working since a money earning male was not needed. The industrialization of America essentially changed the role of women and made them more independent and involved in social activism.

The Impact of Industrialization and Technology On Women and The Family

The industrial revolution, and industrialization of our society has had a great impact on the typical life of a nuclear family, and women especially. Before the industrial revolution, many women found it extremely difficult to find jobs, so when the industrial revolution really set in, and factories were set up, etc. Women were working in these factories, as were their children. They worked long, hard days, usually 12-15 hours, even the children, as child labor laws weren't yet established. The nuclear family was impacted greatly by this revolution as it was once expected for the mother to stay at home and nurture her children, but now she was working alongside her children, trying to juggle raising the kids, and working a tough job that was strictly manual labor. The impact it's had on today's society still resonates as now most families require two incomes to stay stable, and most teenagers have a job, not ridiculously young people like back then however.

Technology Destroying Emapthy

After reading the article Is Technology Destroying Empathy? by P.J. Manny I have a very different look on the topic. Empathy has always been apart of human culture in one way or another the article explains. Without it we are not human, it's what drives almost every decision we make. Manny asks a good question when saying, "In the 21st century, we use technology to communicate at a level unprecedented in human history. So, with so many opportunities to connect, why do we still not understand one another, and face such conflict?" (Manny) I believe that the answer to this question is that there is very little human to human communication anymore. That is where all the skills to be able to communicate to one another comes from. Communicating through a technological device defeats the whole purpose of having a face to face conversation with someone. The skills needed are entirely different.

Is Technology Killing Empathy?

Technology has a huge impact on emotions. People seem to be different on text or a call than in person. However, I do not believe technology is killing empathy. People still empathize and understand one's emotion with or without technology. Although many people seem different behind the screen, they still have the ability to understand another's emotion. On the other hand, the individual expressing his or her emotions may be more open to describe how they feel behind the screen rather than in person if they are not very social.

Technology "Breeding Or Killing Empathy"

I believe that technology is killing empathy, but in regards to social media, it does help people to understand what the people of other countries, etc. Are going through. Whether they have true empathy towards these people or not is a tough question to solve for me personally, it's well-documented that people may not care about a certain issue or topic but would rather feel like they are a "part of something" or helping others can stroke their own ego, and make them feel good about themselves. However, I do believe there are still people who care about the injustices in the world, but there are definitely people who just want to feel included. At many protests, in the United States especially, if you ask the protesters what they are protesting, they usually don't even know why they're protesting in the first place. If a person were to gauge the overall knowledge of the issue these protesters have on what they are protesting, I personally have come to believe that it'd be very minimal, and not enough for one to have an educated opinion on. Surely, there are people out there who do care about these issues, but I feel as though compared to other generations, the same amount of real empathy felt isn't present.

Revolutionary

Martin Luther King Jr. is one the greatest revolutionaries of all time because of what he did for the african american race. With the signing of the Emancipation Proclamation it freed african americans, but it didn't help them get on their feet and start a life. It was something like keeping a person in prison for a number of years and suddenly discovering that that person is not guilty of the crime for which he was convicted. And you just go up to him and say, "Now you are free," but you don’t give him any bus fare to get to town. You don’t give him any money to get some clothes to put on his back or to get on his feet again in life. He became a pastor of the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. He was a major advocate for non-violent protests and made huge advancements in the civil rights movement. His advancements have been recognized by the whole world and is still recognized today.

Revolutionary

A revolutionary in today's world whether you love him or hate him is Donald J. Trump. President Trump has changed the way a political campaign is run for good. Trump claimed to have no time for political correctness during his campaign and that helped him to gain many voters. Trump based his campaign mostly on the idea of bringing American jobs back, and focusing on America, rather than worrying about everybody else's problems which resonated with his voters. A campaign like his is something that has never been seen before and will likely not be seen for years to come, if ever again. Donald never went too in depth about policy, but rather tried to make sure every citizen could understand his message, repeating talking points and ensuring voters knew what his message was and that message resonated with plenty of Americans. Unlike most politicians, Trump is following through on his campaign promises, and appealing to his base more than ever. Many hate Trump, but questioning him as a revolutionary figure just doesn't seem like something that can be argued to me.

The Age of Revolution

The Age of Revolution took place from the years 1776 to 1815. Both political and social revolutions occurred during this time period. On October 5, 1789 the Women's March on Versailles took place where a mob of women broke into the Palace of Versailles. These women were near rioting over the high price and scarcity of bread. This event ended the king's independence and signified a change in power and reforms soon to overtake France. The march symbolized a new balance of power that displaced the ancient privileged orders of the French nobility and favored the nation's common people. Bringing together people in their largest numbers yet, this march proved to be a defining moment of the Revolution.

The Internet

As many have said before obviously the internet has changed man kind forever and it has done that in a lot of positive ways, but it has also definitely impacted humanity in a negative way. The internet has given an unlimited access of information to literally anyone in the world. With this freedom people can familiarize themselves with almost anything in the world. While both of these are huge positives, people have start to lose the basic skills of what it means to be human. Human interaction is not the same it used to be at all. There isn't one conversation out there that isn't interrupted by the casual glance at your phone. Also in some cases people are very behind on their own face to face communication skills. Since they are always behind that screen and can say whatever they want without an immediate reaction from someone.

The Vast World Wide Web

With time passing and technology advancing, the Internet has come a long way since it was created. Today, it has infinite uses that range from infinite possibilities. The fact that anyone can look up anything at anytime is revolutionary, if I do not know about something or want to learn something fast I might Google it and read about it or watch a video or two. Not only is this easy to do, but quick and easy. With almost the entire population of the planet having access to this seemingly endless knowledge, there are people who think that they "know it all" or are an expert at the topic. These people did there research and are now knowledgeable and have done a small amount of research about a topic, not necessarily an expert. People who go to actual experts who have done years of research and/or hands on experience and claim to know more are just ignorant. Just because you read an article or saw it in a video does not give all the answers.

The internet has clearly transformed our world. We can now learn new things quicker than we have ever been able to before. No longer do people have to spend hours or even days searching for the knowledge they need. Now they can search anything anywhere at any time. This ability takes away from the need to acquire and remember information. From education to recreation, from shopping to reading, no aspect of the human routine is untouched by the virtual world. However, we may not completely recognize the personal and social implications of this advancement. Without a doubt, each new transformative medium has modified our perception. The internet is rerouting our neural pathways, replacing our literary brain with one that is over distracted in ways that sacrifice both knowledge and creativity.
